This Saturday, September 26, 2015, St. Anthony High School will be hosting its 95th Anniversary Celebration, as well as the induction of their five honorees into the St. Anthony High School Hall of Fame.

The Courtyard of the school’s historic campus will be transformed into a magical setting, providing opportunity for school to honor their past and thank those who made their present success possible as they once again make history celebrating a landmark anniversary.  Dinner will be provided by Jay’s Catering, and music will be performed by the The Elm Street Band.  The cocktail hour and dancing will take place in the school’s restructured Arbor area, and the dinner and ceremony will be held in front of the completely renovated Science Building.

Every five years, on St. Anthony High School’s anniversaries, the school inducts new members into its prestigious Hall of Fame.  The names of those honored in the St. Anthony High School Hall of Fame are etched on the entrance hallway wall in the main building at 620 Olive Avenue.  The 2015 St. Anthony High School Hall of Fame Honorees are Sister Mary Elizabeth Galt, B.V.M., Lawrence Lacerte, Class of ‘70, Bishop Sylvester D. Ryan, Thomas Walsh, Class of ‘61, and Sandra Walsh, Class of ‘62.

Sister Mary Elizabeth Galt, B.V.M. was appointed the Senior Director of Pastoral Services for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in July of 2015.  She has been a strong advocate and supporter of St. Anthony High School since her appointment as Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 2003 when St. Anthony High School was experiencing a decline in enrollment. Throughout the following years, she was part of the high school’s re-emergence as a leader in Catholic education.

Lawrence Lacerte, who graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1970, is an entrepreneur and software developer, husband and father of seven children who has made a difference through his entrepreneurialism in business and his philanthropic support of a variety of organizations primarily focused on the health and education of children.  He is the founder of Lacerte Software Corporation and ExponentHR.

Bishop Sylvester D. Ryan served as Bishop of the Diocese of Monterey from 1992 through 2006, but is still active today, raising funds to support Catholic education and provide tuition assistance for needy students.  Bishop Ryan was full-time associate pastor, full-time religion teacher and coached boys basketball and football at St. Anthony High School from 1960 to 1965.

Thomas J. Walsh is a 1961 graduate and, for over 30 years, he has been a man of action behind the scenes at St. Anthony High School, volunteering as a fundraiser, helping with facilities maintenance projects and serving on committees too numerous to list.  He currently serves as a member of the St. Anthony Sports Complex Action Team (SASCAT), a group of alumni who are dedicated to the renovation of the school’s athletic field and facilities.

Sandra Walsh, the wife of Thomas Walsh, is a 1962 graduate and has been tirelessly committed to serving her family, her Church, St. Anthony High School and the greater community as a wife, mother and community volunteer.  During some of St. Anthony High School’s most challenging years, Sandy stepped forward as a volunteer, supporting the sports program, assisting on campus clean-up days and lending a hand whenever and wherever needed.

The major sponsors who have made the event possible include: Lawrence and Joyce Lacerte, Diamond Sponsor; St. Anthony’s High School Foundation, Silver Sponsor; Cini Gannon Robb, Class of 1967, Bronze Sponsor; Tom and Gina Cappannelli, Class of 1968, Bronze Sponsor; and Joyce and George Murchison, Class of 1954, Bronze Sponsor.

St. Anthony High School has been Long Beach’s only Catholic high school since it was founded in 1920.  For the past six years, 100% of St. Anthony High School’s graduates have gone on to higher education or to proudly serve our military, and over 70% go on to attend four-year colleges or universities each year.
