St. Anthony High School senior Nicholas Negrete has been accepted into seven out of eight Ivy League schools plus Stanford University.

Nicholas has yet to select which school he will attend next Fall, but hopes to double major in English and Math.  After graduation from college, he would like to either write for the New Yorker or be an entrepreneur.

When asked about his preparation for college and career, Nicholas said that, “St. Anthony’s is a great academic community with fantastic teachers.  My favorite departments are especially great – Math, English and Social Science. I also love the Religion program because it gives us a very strong community of faith.”

Nicholas currently maintains at 4.6 GPA and is the Captain of the Academic Decathlon Team and Mock Trial Team, as well as copy editor for the Anthonian Yearbook and a member of the SAHS Golf Team.

“We are blessed that many of our seniors are accepted each year to top universities across the nation, but Nick’s accomplishments are extraordinary,” said Mike Schabert, Principal of St. Anthony High School. “Earning acceptance to seven Ivy’s and Stanford is a very rare and outstanding accomplishment. He is a wonderful, deserving young man and St. Anthony High School is very proud.”

One moment that Nicholas is especially proud of in his high school experience is being one of the first St. Anthony students to be commended by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in many years.  Additionally, Nicholas has enjoyed tutoring several of his fellow high school students and interning for an organization called Skillify, which helps young students develop professional skills.

Nicholas recommends that, “Any student who wants to attend an Ivy League school or any great university needs to read, read, read, write, write, write. It is critical to know how to communicate why you’re unique and to be able to talk about yourself.”
