The St. Mary Medical Center Foundation, celebrating 40-years of supporting the work of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and hospital programs, successfully completed its “40th Anniversary Campaign” by raising $1.4 million against a goal of $1.25 million. Lou Cassani, Campaign Chair, announced the achievement at a recent meeting, and noted that it was accomplished in record time – 9 months. “Approximately 80 campaign-specific gifts were received from St. Mary Board members, friends, grateful patients, area corporations and foundations to support the mission-focused programs of the Sisters and St. Mary, as well as the hospital’s Centers of Excellence in Cardiology, Bariatrics, Orthopedic Surgery and Obstetrics” said Mr. Cassani. A special thanks to the Evalyn M. Bauer Foundation was acknowledged, which matched all $5,000 gifts to the Campaign and to the Foundation’s annual auction.
Leo Vander Lans, the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation Chair stated, “2010 has been a very good year. In addition to successfully concluding the campaign, the Foundation has experienced record net receipts for our 30th Annual Gala Dinner & Auction, several significant six- and seven-figure planned gifts from long-time friends of St. Mary, a grant award of $1.9 million to expand the hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program and a $1.1 million grant to support patients being assisted by the hospital’s C.A.R.E. (Comprehensive Aids Resource Education) Program.”
Chris DiCicco, St. Mary Medical Center’s President/CEO, shared, “The Foundation’s success enables St. Mary to be not just a good hospital and community resource, but a great one. With the continued help of the Foundation, we plan to expand our historic commitment to greater Long Beach. The legacy of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word demands no less”.
