St. Mary Medical Center to Host Stroke/Trauma Awareness Seminar

Dignity Health St. Mary Medical Center, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center for Los Angeles County, as certified by The Joint Commission, will host a Stroke/Trauma Awareness seminar on Monday, May 18, on campus in the John Parr Health Enhancement Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Lectures will focus on early symptoms of a stroke and the importance of calling 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest stroke center of excellence for immediate treatment. The lectures include:

  • Lisa Johnson, Stroke Care Coordinator at St. Mary, explaining “Stroke 101,” the symptoms of stroke.
  • Andrei Dokukin, MD, speaking on “Rehabilitation for Strokes” and the ability to regain function.
  • Long Beach Fire Ambassadors discussing “Fire Safety 101,” with tips about safety in the home.

The free educational event is provided by the hospital’s Wellness Center, in collaboration with Long Beach Fire Ambassadors, the St. Mary Stroke Center and Disaster Resource Center.
