Stumped About Solar Energy? Southern California Edison offers Free Classes for Homeowners
2010-05-10 · By Editor
Every day, more people are turning to the sun as a reliable energy source — and so can you. The thousands of Californians who have already decided to “go solar” know that powering their home or business with solar energy is easy, and reaping the benefits even easier.
Southern California Edison (SCE) will help its residential customers “follow the sun” with free classes on the California Solar Initiative (CSI) program and the incentives it offers to homeowners who decide to “go solar.”
Customers will learn about:
- solar energy basics
- Benefits of installing a solar energy system
- Tax credits and other financial models that can help reduce upfront costs
- Financial incentives through the CSI program
These 90-minute, nontechnical, easy-to-understand classes are held at SCE Service Centers and other convenient locations throughout the utility’s service territory. They are free but require registration because space is limited.
The closest Solar Initiative class will take place May 26 in Cerritos. Ten more classes are scheduled in Southern California cities in May and June, including Santa Monica and Westminster.
To register or see a complete schedule, visit www.sce.com/solartraining or call (866) 970-9221.
A separate solar course is designed to educate photovoltaic (PV) installers, self-installers, managers and PV owners, and features new and updated information on the California Solar Initiative program. Contractors will learn how to complete the CSI forms, take advantage of rebates on fixed and tracking PV (solar energy) systems, and interconnect to the grid. Other topics include metering, monitoring, shading issues and CSI’s online database.
