Summer Adventures at the Rancho offer kids a glimpse back in time

School’s out and the television goes on? Not so — at least it’s not at one of California’s oldest ranchos! This summer, children who visit Rancho Los Cerritos will learn all about daily life on the ranch long before there was electricity, cars, or many other modern conveniences.
What if your chores included dipping candles, paring apples, and washing clothes with a washboard and wringer? What if you had to make your own toys?
Children are finding out what life was like in the old days at “Summer Adventures at the Rancho” an interactive and engaging history-themed summer program offered by Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site in Bixby Knolls.
Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site will offer three weeklong, half-day sessions (Monday-Friday, 9:30am – noon):
- “Vaquero Adventures,” July 6 – July 10
- “Victorian Adventures,” July 13 – July 17
- “Adobe Adventures,” July 20 – July 24
The cost for these exciting opportunities to step back in time is just $50 per session. The program is designed for children aged 6-10. Advanced reservations are required.
Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, which is located at 4600 Virginia Road in Long Beach, is a beautifully preserved 1844 two-story adobe house with landscaped gardens that echo with the rich history of Spanish, Mexican, and American California.
