Summer Day Camps at Long Beach Parks Offer Kids a Safe Fun Environment

Kids can plan on a summer of fun-filled activities, while parents relax knowing their youngsters are in a safe, supervised environment in Summer Day Camp Programs provided by the Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department. The City is offering Park Day Camps, Aquatics Day Camps, a Hi-Five Sports Camp, a Music and Arts Camp, and a Pee Wee Camp. Registration is ongoing for the Day Camps, and Aquatics Camps registration begins on May 1.
Camps are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., between June 21 and August 27. Weekly fees for the programs run $90 to $130 (aquatics camps run $105-$145 per week). To help working parents, extended day care hours are available, 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m., for an extra $25 per week for the a.m. or p.m. session.
Four parks will offer Day Camps where kids 5 to 12 years old will keep busy with games, arts and crafts, field trips (extra fee), beach visits, and a variety of other activities. Cost for the day camps is $90 per week and signups are underway at:

Preschool youngsters are welcome at the Pee Wee Camp just for them. Cost for the pee-wee camps is $90 per week and signups are underway at:

For budding actors and artists, 5 to 12 years old, recreation leaders at Whaley Park, 5620 Atherton St., (562) 570-1710, will host the popular Music and Arts Camp. Young campers will take part in art, set design, acting, singing, and dancing projects as well as participate in games, crafts and sports. They’ll join camp staff in producing and performing original plays for parents and friends. The $100 fee includes materials.
Kids play a different sport every other week in the Hi-Five Sports Camp at Pan American Park, 5157 Centralia St. (562) 570-1660. Youngsters will practice new athletic skills, learn the value of teamwork and good sportsmanship, and engage in activities to promote physical fitness. Basketball, volleyball, soccer and flag football will be played in two-week sessions. Cost of the sports camp is $90 per week.
Kids can have a great time in the water this summer at Belmont Plaza Pool. The Belmont Junior Aquatics Camp will take place at Belmont Plaza Pool, 4000 Olympic Plaza, (562) 570-1888, June 21-September 3, ages 5-8, kindergarten experience required, (extended day care available 7-9 a. m. and 4-6 p.m. at additional cost of $25-$50 per week). All field trips are at an additional cost.
