Sunday Hours at Main Library End in June
2009-06-07 · By Editor
As the traditional school year comes to an end, Sunday hours at the Long Beach Main Library will also end in June.
Closing on Sundays is a result of a decision made at the beginning of the FY09 budget year to keep Long Beach Main Library open on Sundays during the traditional school year. Unfortunately, additional funding was not found during the year to allow the Main Library to stay open during the summer.
The library will close on Sundays effective June 7, 2009.
“Due to the current economic climate, additional funds are unavailable in the library budget,” said Glenda Williams, Acting Director of Library Services. “Therefore, the Main Library will be closed on Sundays beginning June 7, 2009.”
There will not be any libraries open on Sundays in Long Beach, but libraries in Lakewood (Iacoboni Library), Cerritos, Huntington Beach (Central Library), Carson and San Pedro are currently open on Sundays.
Effective June 1, the Long Beach Main Library schedule of hours will be:
- Sunday & Monday: Closed
- Tuesday: 10 am – 8 pm
- Wednesday & Thursday: 10 am – 6 pm
- Friday & Saturday: 10 am – 5 pm
Any reinstatement of Sunday Main Library Hours will be part of the FY10 budget process.
