EverythingLongBeach recently spoke with Tricia Brumit, Director of Operations of Sunnyland Pictures, via email. They talked about inspirations, challenges and what’s it’s like having a business in Bluff Park/Bixby.
How long have you been in business?
About one year. New to Long Beach.
Describe your business:
Sunnyland Pictures strives to grow innovative and forward-thinking small businesses and non-profits by offering them a leg up on the competition through affordable, customized, cutting-edge web video marketing and production. Our award winning videos can be put to immediate use through social media marketing to instantaneously grow a customer’s bottom line. This growth should translate into job creation for both Sunnyland Pictures as well as our clients.

Why did you start Sunnyland Pictures?
It was an accident. Our friends were struggling with their small business and we decided to help them reach more people and make their concept more interesting by shooting a commercial for them. (Our background is film and television.) Their business took off as a result and we felt so good we wanted to do it for more people – more businesses – and feel great about what we do every day.
What makes Sunnyland Pictures stand out?
Our personalized touch – every company is different and we figure out what they do best and how to tell their story in a compelling and interesting way. If clients feel they know them then they trust them, and will want to work with them. We give them the ‘turst-factor’. We take the time to understand what is important – and our productions are first class and VERY affordable. Absolutely the most bang for a small business or non-profit’s dollar.
What is your favorite part of running your business?
Favorite part of running the business is seeing what a difference we can make in the lives of small business owners. When we hand over the finished product then hear a few weeks later how powerful that is in reaching new people – that is our biggest reward. Plus, working across the street from the beach doesn’t hurt, either.
What are the biggest challenges you face?
As a relatively new venture, our biggest challenge is in knowing what we we don’t know from a business ownership perspective. All of the red tape that goes into it to make sure our i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed.
What unique talents do you bring to Sunnyland Pictures?
We bring over 15 years of production and business management experience to our business. The founder of Sunnyland has worked on award-winning top rated shows such as The Biggest Loser, America’s Next Top Model, Arrested Development, Beyond the Glory – we know all aspects of production. Our Director of Operations has managed a variety of businesses from small restaurants and start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Combined, we understand what it takes to shine the light on the people we work with, and make others want to work with them in turn.
How is Sunnyland Pictures involved with the community?
As members of the gay community, we started an equality video campaign called Start a Conversation – meant to reach our friends and family who are still on the fence about the rights of the LGBT community. We can be seen volunteering each Sunday at The Center as well and continue to work on passion projects related to issues close to our hearts in order to bring awareness and understanding. Do you have any future plans for Sunnyland Pictures?
We recently hired a small sales staff and hope to grow our company in and around the Long Beach area. We really want to work with Non-profits as well – and hope to increase awareness and help raise money for these worth-while efforts by discounting our already very low production rates and producing heart-warming and thought provoking stories on their behalf.
What is the best advice that you received and who did it come from?
Presence is Peace – if you are present and not in your head things just work better. – A very good friend told me this once and it’s so true.
One Last Thing:
Consumers recall only 20% of what they hear and 30% of what they see. However, when they see it AND hear it, 70% can be recalled. – Why video works so well!
