Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske announced today the new date for the Community Baby Shower. The Community Baby Shower will take place Wednesday May 20th at the City of Long Beach Health and Human Services Department, located at 2525 Grand Avenue.
Councilwoman Schipske has extended the deadline for donations in order to give all residents of Long Beach an opportunity to participate in this wonderful project that touches the lives of mothers and babies in need of assistance throughout the City of Long Beach.
The Community Baby Shower is a program designed by Councilwoman Schipske, a Registered Nurse Practitioner, where donations are collected to provide low-income mothers with the basic necessities to care for a newborn and ensure a healthier outcome from their pregnancy.
City of Long Beach Public Health nurses will use the “newborn kits” as an incentive for expectant mothers to complete certain vital educational programs.
Current 2009 Community baby Shower donors include: Sam’s Club; Target; Kaiser Permanente; Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Friends of the Long Beach Firefighters; Law Office of Sandra H. Castro; Campfire USA; Quilters by the Sea: Long Beach Quilting Guild; Stitches From the Heart; Long Beach Binky Patrol; Girl Scouts Troop 2983; Soroptimist International of Long Beach; Students of Chapman University and the generous citizens of Long Beach and Los Angeles County.
“Due to these difficult economic times, your support is especially needed,” Councilwoman Schipske stated.
You can help make the Community Baby Shower a success in the following ways:
- Donate new baby items for the kits: diapers, diaper bags, baby clothes, blankets, etc. Please drop off donations at the Office of Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske’s Neighborhood Office at 2760 Studebaker Rd. between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, before May 19, 2009
- Make a tax-deductible donation to Long Beach Cares, a non-profit organization that raises money to help local public health programs.
