School Board candidate Richard Lewis announced today that he has received the support of the Teachers Association of Long Beach in his bid to fill a vacancy in the 3rd District.
“Richard Lewis is the most qualified candidate and the best person for Long Beach School Board,” stated Michael Day, President of the Teachers Association of Long Beach. “Richard is a parent of two young children, has a solid business background and strong ties to the community. The teachers association is confident that Richard Lewis will ensure that we continue investing our education dollars in the classroom while creating innovative partnerships to improve academic achievement and serve the children of Long Beach.”
Lewis, who has received the endorsements of a majority of the Long Beach City Council, the Signal Hill City Council and the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, expressed his gratitude to have such a diverse and broad coalition of support.
“This endorsement is especially meaningful because it really highlights the broad coalition that is building in support of my candidacy. I believe these endorsements speak to my proven track record of taking a common sense approach to tackling difficult issues,” stated Lewis. “I’m honored that the Teacher’s Association of Long Beach, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, and a majority of the Long Beach and Signal Hill City Councils have reviewed my experience, my education platform and my fiscal expertise, and decided that I am the best candidate to serve the children and families of the 3rd district,” stated Lewis.
Active on the Downtown Long Beach Associates’ Executive Board and President of the East Village Association, Lewis plans to use his strong connections in the community to help bridge public-private partnerships for the benefit of schools. Lewis currently works as a financial controller; he and his partner of more than 20 years are the parents of 2 preschool aged children.
