A unique and intensive writing camp for teenagers age 13 – 19 is being offered by Rose Writers Creative Writing Workshop this July. Young writers of science fiction, fantasy and realistic fiction are invited to apply to this unique summer writers’ camp.
Writers of Science Fiction and fantasy will learn the ins and outs of world building and how to construct imaginary worlds that are coherent and believable. We will practice building fictional worlds from the ground up, including physical structure, societal rules and norms, galaxies, fantastical creatures and more. Writers will have a solid foundation to build the plot of their stories and go on to create a believable and engaging storylines.
For those writers whose stories are a bit more realistic, they will practice and get tips on storytelling techniques such as plot and character development, dialogue and how to add tension and conflict, the essentials of a good story.
Writers in both genres will be encouraged and supported to complete at least one finished piece during the workshop. Small group instruction, along with one on one sessions and written feedback will help writers from first draft to completion.
Youth Writing Camp sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 8 – 31; 9:30am – 12:00pm for ages 13-15 and 1:00-3:30 for ages 16-19. Each session is limited to 10 writers so early registration is encouraged. Fee for entire workshop is $175.
