An estimated three to six million women and children are enslaved for sex at any given time, nearly a million of whom are trafficked across international borders each year. The average age of children who are trafficked is 12 to 14. The LBC Yoga Mala: Let Freedom Flow is a community event in collaboration with Off The Mat, Into the World’s Global Seva Challenge created to increase awareness of this issue and raise financial support for grassroots organizations committed to addressing both the immediate needs of survivors of sex trafficking and long-term solutions through education, awareness, refuge, rehabilitation, economic opportunities, and empowerment.
The LBC Yoga Mala takes place on Saturday, October 27th on the grounds of the Walter Pyramid at California State University Long Beach (Atherton and Fanwood). It includes 108 sun salutations taught by 12 of the best yoga teachers in the Long Beach area, local vendors, raffle items, and an organic cotton eco-friendly bag for all participants. The event begins at 10am, and registration begins at 9am. Admission is $108. You can register online or register the day of the event; cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted. All registration fees benefit Off The Mat, Into the World, a program of The Engage Network nonprofit organization.
The LBC Yoga Mala is held in collaboration with Off The Mat, Into the World™, the CSU Long Beach Kinesiology Department, and CSULB’s Graduate Sport Management Program, and The College of Health and Human Services new LifeFit Center.
