When you attend a party curated by DJ Jus Rhyme, you can expect your body and mind to move. It’s no exception with The People’s Party – the latest brainchild of the MTV and VH1-featured artist/activist – which will return to Long Beach this Saturday, June 1.
Known for his eclectic DJ and MC combined-sets, Jus Rhyme is known for transforming venues into community block parties and activist festivals. He now resides in Long Beach and with the support of LB-staple, Ashley’s Bar and Grill, Jus has taken up a DJ residency on select dates, as well as on the Last Saturday of Each Month.
Jus’ parties at Ashley’s have featured various Los Angeles, Long Beach, and South Bay artists and activists including The Long Beach Derby Gals, Occupy Long Beach, the Long Beach Free School, as well as live painting, guest DJs, and even tarot card reading.
“The People’s Party is about the people,” Jus said. “Free to get in, cheap drinks, all-request DJ, performances, and free tabling for artists and activists to promote. It’s an amazing opportunity for people who love art, music, and activism to come together to celebrate, network, and build.”
The party this Saturday will feature a cadre of Southern California photographers and filmmakers, spear-headed by Odin Wadleigh, projecting still and moving images across the walls of Ashley’s. Painter and craftsman, Jai, will offer an exhibit of his latest work ripe off his success at the Long Beach Green Prix. Jus Rhyme will offer the party soundtrack with all-request DJing and a special guest performance at 9PM.
The People’s Party will return to Ashley’s Bar & Grill (1731 E. 4th St., Long Beach, CA 90802) this Saturday, June 1st from 8PM-2AM. Free, 21+ with ID. Drink specials all night. Food until 10pm. Free tables for artists and activists (7PM load-in; reservations: 562-999-1212). More info: peoplesparty.biz.
