Watch This Book presents The Wizard of Oz June 25 at Last Saturdays.

This month the event also welcomes singer/songwriter Alicia Murphy, who will perform original works from 4pm to 5pm, and Long Beach band MajicBulletTheory, who will complement a beautiful summer day with their eclectic mix of influences – including jazz, hip hop, and funk – from 5pm to 8pm. Come early to check out this great band, and to explore the collection of artists, vendors, and exhibitors who will be displaying their works as part of 4th Street Long Beach’s monthly community street event, Last Saturdays!

Director Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz is the winner of two Academy Awards (Best Score, Best Song – “Over the Rainbow”), and is an adaptation of the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.   Prior to the film, the book had already inspired a number of stage and screen adaptations, including a profitable Broadway musical and three silent films.  Of course the 1939 MGM film is the most famous adaptation, beloved by generations of fans, and celebrated among film historians for its innovative innovative special effects and revolutionary use of the then-new Technicolor.
