There’s an Imposter in the House! Tartuffe Opens at LB Playhouse
2012-03-22 · By Editor
Because the oldest life lessons are often the best, the Long Beach Playhouse is excited to present Moliere’s classic tale of Tartuffe, an impossibly convincing impostor.
This sparkling version of the great French comedy is a hilarious and scathing commentary on human greed and manipulation. Seemingly a beacon of piety, Tartuffe is a guest in the home of wealthy merchant Orgon. But all is not as it seems. Orgon becomes more and more enraptured with his new companion while the family smells a rat – and hatches a cunning plan to outwit the wily hypocrite. Tartuffe is an intelligent, rollicking, romp of a farce.
“We are honored to have Phyllis Gitlin directing this production. She is a favorite of the LBPH creative team and never fails to deliver a great experience for the audience. Last year she directed Boston Marriage to great success,” explains a press release from the Long Beach Playhouse. “As always, our director is assisted by many of the city’s finest theater professionals whose talent with lights, sounds, costumes and props transport the audience to another place and time.”
Tartuffe opens on April 7, 2012. The public is invited to purchase tickets for the opening night reception and gala where they may mix and mingle with the cast. The show will continue on Friday nights (8 p.m.), Saturday nights (8 p.m.) and Sunday matinees, (2 p.m.) through Saturday, May 5, 2012.
