Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske is teaming up with the Long Beach Fire Department and the Long Beach Firefighters Association Local 372 to kick off the 39th Annual National Emergency Medical Services Week by hosting a tour of 5th Council District Fire Stations No. 5, 18, 19 on Saturday, May 19th from 1 pm until 5 pm.
“This year’s theme is ‘EMS: More Than A Job. A Calling’ and I believe that when residents visit our fire stations and talk with our firefighters they will agree that these men and women have a true calling to help and care for others in their hour of need,” says Councilwoman Schipske.
The tour (which can be done by walking, bicycling or riding to each of the fire stations. Click on the following to see map: http://g.co/maps/k64jt ) will give residents an inside look at the services provided out of the three fire stations and a chance to pick up a carbon monoxide detector, emergency preparedness information, coloring books for the kids and a hot dog or hamburger. Residents who visit all three fire stations will receive a chance to win a dinner for two at Baja Sonora.
The tour begins at 1pm at Fire Station No. 19, located at 3559 Clark Avenue. Displays and information will be available regarding Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and the American Red Cross’s emergency preparedness.
At 2:30 pm, Firefighters at Fire Station No. 18, located at 3361 Palo Verde Avenue, will review the various fire equipment used and the procedures followed when they receive a call for emergency service. The first 100 people will receive a Carbon Monoxide detector (one per household) which is now mandated by state law.
Starting at 4 pm, the Long Beach Firefighters Association Local 372 will host a barbecue of hot dogs and hamburgers at Fire Station No. 5, located at 7575 East Wardlow Road. The day ends at 5pm with a drawing for dinner for two at Baja Sonora.
