Friday Night Traffic Collision Results in Death of Pedestrian

On Friday, June 1, 2012, at approximately 9:32 p.m., Long Beach Police Officers were dispatched to the area of East Spring Street and Stevely Avenue regarding a traffic collision. The accident resulted in the death of a male pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed a dark blue 2004 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Spring Street, in the number one traffic lane, near Stevely Avenue. Two male pedestrians ran northbound crossing Spring Street eastbound traffic lanes. One of the pedestrians stopped on the center divider for oncoming traffic. The other pedestrian continued running northbound into westbound traffic and was struck by the Honda Civic. Witnesses stated the second pedestrian ran from the scene.
The injured pedestrian was transported to a local hospital. He died shortly after arrival as a result of injuries he suffered in the traffic collision. The decedent will be identified pending notification of next-of-kin.
