Saturday Evening Traffic Collision Results in Pedestrian Fatality

On Saturday, November 27, 2010, at approximately 7:50 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Anaheim Street that resulted in the death of a male pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an adult male entered the roadway in a crosswalk but against the red light at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Anaheim Street, when he was struck by a 2010 Hyundai Genesis traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway. The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old female resident of Signal Hill, remained at the scene and was interviewed and released.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and determined the pedestrian to be deceased. Pending notification to his family, he is only being identified as a 48-year-old male transient.
