water leak causes gas shut offEarlier today, Long Beach Gas and Oil Department and Long Beach Water Department staff responded to a report of water leaking from a gas service line.  This was verified at several locations. For the safety of Long Beach residents, gas service was shut off at approximately 1:00 pm, impacting an estimated 222 customers.

At this time, the situation is isolated to the area bounded by Cherry Avenue (west), Raymond Avenue (east), 65th Street (north) and 63rd Street (south). Crews from both departments are working diligently to resolve the problem and restore service, but the source of water has not yet been identified.

It is likely that gas service will be down for an extended period of time.  Currently water service is not impacted; however, it may also need to be shut off as the problem is fixed.

Customers will be contacted and must be home to have gas service restored.  More information will be provided when available.  Affected customers can call 570.2140 (24-hour gas emergency number) or 570.2390 for water related questions.
