Urban Cottage in Bixby Knolls: Antiques and New, and Custom For You!
2011-10-11 · By Deana Rodriguez
Heads-up, Bixby Knolls and Long Beach neighbors! As of Saturday, October 15, 2011, Urban Cottage is open for business! Urban Cottage is at 4121 Long Beach Blvd., and is located just south of Carson Street. Owner Melissa Zambrano, a Long Beach resident for more than thirty years, is very excited to support the Long Beach community through her business.
“One of the first things I hope you’ll feel when you walk into Urban Cottage is how important love, peace and creativity are in my environment and my life. I want everyone to benefit from that, and I also want to inspire shoppers to see the beauty in recycled and re-purposed items at a reasonable price, and to feel like they can make it their own.”
From floor to ceiling, Urban Cottage offers a 550-square-foot visual journey for shoppers, with a little bit of everything from quick, inexpensive gifts to valuable vintage items. The store provides shoppers with products that are within a broad price range, from grab-and-go furniture to high-end antiques; from chandeliers to mirrors and garden must-haves; from custom-made jewelry to inexpensive quick finds, and home décor that includes a variety of locally-made media art, leather goods, aprons, linens, lamps, pillows, and much more! Melissa also offers one-on-one service to help shoppers personalize their homes.
“My years of selling (and shopping) at flea markets, and refinishing all types of furniture, has been a long-time passion that simply took one more ‘a-ha!’ moment to get me to act. I was having lunch with my friend of twenty years who is also a fellow small-business owner, when she asked the question that I’ve been asked for years: ‘Why don’t you have a store?’ I am so very happy to now say, Welcome to my store!”
Throughout the year, Urban Cottage will support local artists and artisans, and showcase some amazing creations. Each month, Urban Cottage will schedule an open house celebration to highlight a chosen “Artist of the Month.” The current in-store collection includes Jewelry by Mia, leather goods made by Adriane, shell art by Art del Mare, lamps by Loka Jones, artwork by Lantz Simpson and aprons and linens by Fly Birdie. “There will be more to come!” says Melissa.
Urban Cottage, located at 4121 Long Beach Blvd., is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 7pm; Saturdays 10am to 6pm, and during the holiday season Sundays from noon to 4pm.
