As part of the Verizon FiOS SoCal Experience campaign, local Verizon employees will participate in a volunteer day to improve the state of the Library at Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach’s Fairfield Westside Youth Center. A key facet of the FiOS SoCal Experience is support for local causes, and Verizon and the local community will team up to support three non-profit organizations in each phase of the campaign. The campaign has already donated a total of $45,000 to non-profits throughout Southern California.

The volunteer day will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28 at the Club’s Freeman E. Fairfield/Westside Center in Long Beach. Library improvements will begin at 9:30 a.m. and a check presentation will take place between noon and 1:00 p.m. Completion of library refurbishment, including painting, computer and furniture install will continue until 3:00 p.m. Media welcome.

The ‘Be Great: Graduate!’ Program helps young people who may be at risk of dropping out of school develop the academic, behavioral and social skills needed to be successful in school and beyond. In an effort to improve the ‘Be Great: Graduate!’ program area, Verizon FiOS will be increasing the amount of computers used for academic support from five to 20, repainting the space and installing several computer tables to create a welcoming learning and supportive environment for young people at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach Fairfield/Westside branch.
