Fire Station #2 were one of 72 recipients honored as a Steward of the Second District earlier this month.

On Thursday, December 11, 2014 Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal recognized 72 residents, businesses, community groups and city staff as “Stewards of the Second District”, because of their leadership and commitment to our community and the City of Long Beach. Among those being recognized were Stewards nominated by neighborhood and business associations in the Second District.

The Second District embodies the diversity, cooperation and optimism of Long Beach. These individuals, businesses and groups have gone beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the lives of others. Such contributions are to be commended and shared with all Long Beach residents. Over the last five years, more than 400 Stewards have been recognized for their contributions.

During her first year on the City Council, Vice Mayor Lowenthal was inspired to think of a term or title that aptly captured those individuals and community groups that went beyond the call of duty to improve the quality of life in the Second District, and thus the entire city. She came away with the term, “Stewards of the Second District” – a person or entity that provides ongoing care and guidance.

You can learn more about this year’s Stewards by reading their bios on the City’s website.
