2013-04-08 · By Editor
Long Beach business Green Octopus Consulting has teamed up with the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition to increase small business sales through increased bicycling in L.A. County. The Goldhirsh Foundation and GOOD are offering $100,000 to 10 teams to create a better future for Los Angeles, and Green Octopus’s proposal aims to help local, small businesses thrive.
Here’s an excerpt from the team’s submission: “Bicycle-friendly business districts improve local economies by strengthening connections between residents and their local businesses, increasing small business revenues, and improving neighborhood vitality and connectedness, all the while improving public safety, environmental health, and GLH – Gross Local Happiness.” The details of their grant proposal are at http://myla2050.maker.good.is/projects/BikeShopLocal.
It’s a very competitive grant contest, and the number of votes secured is a key determinant of who will win. They’re calling on the community to take one minute and vote for small business and community health. Voting ends April 17th.
