West Anaheim Street will close in both directions on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23-24, in West Long Beach as crews continue a roadway improvement project on the thoroughfare.
The closure will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, and is scheduled to continue through 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, to allow crews to replace underground water lines. The street from the L.A. River to the western city limits is undergoing a 14-month-long improvement project that started Sept. 9, 2013.
The street will be closed between Canal and Santa Fe avenues. Westbound traffic will be detoured north to 14th Street, and eastbound cars and trucks will be detoured to 12th and 11th streets to the south.
The Port of Long Beach is overseeing the work to improve the street, which is the northern boundary of the harbor district. In addition to roadway resurfacing, the project includes improvements for sidewalks, bus stops, median, access for the disabled and landscaping.
