Westerly School Selects Patrick Brown to Lead School
2015-01-05 · By Editor
Westerly School proudly announces Patrick Brown as the new Head of School, officially starting July 1, 2015. Mr. Brown joins the Westerly community with over 25 years of experience in independent school education and administration, with 15 of those years as Head of School. Mr. Brown has taught middle school and high school as well as coached basketball, baseball and softball on the varsity level.
With his varied teaching experience and his serving as Head of School for 12 years at the elementary school level, Mr. Brown brings a valuable perspective and understanding of the demands and talents that go into teaching various age groups. “In his role as Head at St. Michael’s Parish Day School, Patrick guided curriculum design and implementation to ensure sequential and coordinated objectives to create an outstanding independent school curriculum. Under Patrick’s leadership, the school thrived financially and grew enrollment. In addition, Patrick led 3 major fundraising campaigns and successfully managed $6.4M in construction projects.”
Mr. Brown received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Stanford University and a Masters in History from the University of Arizona. Throughout his career, he has executed and managed the key aspects of school leadership: school budget, admissions, implementing new programs, championing diversity and inclusivity, communicating with parents and the larger school community, and facilitating teacher professional learning.
In his announcement to the school community, Mr. Neil Kinney, Westerly’s President of the Board, writes, “From our own experience during the interview process with the board, the search committee, the faculty, and the past references with whom we spoke – Patrick makes a strong personal connection to the faculty and the students.”
Working with outgoing Head of School, Chris Rodenhizer, over the next six months, Mr. Brown looks forward to getting to know the school community, which will ensure a smooth transition. Mr. Rodenhizer shares, “I could not be more excited to have Patrick guide Westerly to its next phase. His natural connection to students, insightful questions about our community, and excitement of his appointment, give me great assurance that this amazing little school is in the right hands.”
The Board, the faculty, the students and their families are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Mr. Patrick Brown, as we all continue to support and fulfill the mission of Westerly School.
