Winter veggies and fresh, new baked goods at the Farmer’s Market
2010-01-09 · By Kelli Johnson
We are welcoming back to the Long Beach Sunday Market Ann’s Bakery (don’t forget to mention to Ann’s that you want baguettes) and Lore’s Family Farm with their great selection of winter veggies and cut flowers. Jesse Frutos is bringing more of those amazing raspberries and blueberries.
Gama Farms is also at the market every week with their farm fresh eggs. We will be discussing eggs and storage in an upcoming web article. Please keep in mind these eggs are fresh from the farm and pulled just the day before.
Shortnin’ Bread has a few new items and bringing back some faves. Their normal staple of Short Breads will be joined this week by a Green Tea Short Bread!
Also new this week will be Honey Almond Granola with Flax and Sunflower seeds, Pink Lady Apple Tarts, and Shortnin’ Bread Nutter Butters! They have been working on a Blueberry Bar that they hope to have available. Lastly, the infamous Sour Cream Orange Coffee Cake with cranberries and a semi sweet chocolate and pecan streusel topping will also be back.
New this week is the addition of the Culinary Coach, Gregg Denter! He will be showing off his CIA trained chops with Vegetarian Omelet, Sausage or Bacon breakfast sandwiches, a breakfast spud and some home made fruit juices!
Sounds like you can roll right out of bed and over to the market for breakfast, or have breakfast on the way to church, or sleep in and have some coffee with your chess and a little brunch after? Whatever time you plan to come, just be sure to come hungry!
The craft faire is featuring vintage treasures from Vintage Emporium on Orange and Wardlow, hand crafts from Peru and Nepal, craft supplies such as fabric, yarn, and re-purposed items from the Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse.
Bixby Books will be back with their fabulous selection of vintage and collectible tomes. He handpicks the topics for our market: cook books, gardening, chess, children’s and of course literature. He will have several copies of The Soloist, this year’s selection by the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, for the fabulous event Long Beach Reads One Book.
Kathy Alford is on hand every week with a great selection of plants and her professional words of wisdom and advice on your home garden. You can book a consultation while you’re picking up the eggs!
Long Beach Boot Camp is there weekly to get you motivated! Sign up at the market to receive discounts or do a few push ups to enter the raffle.
Lastly, sign up for the First Annual Farmers Market Soup Swap taking place January 24. For more information on the market and how to participate visit the web site, LongBeachSundayMarket.com.
