WLLB and Super Mex create a special night for Super Kids

A recent TIME magazine article told the story of a young girl in New Jersey who organized an event she called “Autism Night Out”. Her efforts caused 35 restaurants to give families of children with Autism a supportive evening out where they could enjoy an encouraging dining experience without sideways glances, harsh comments or the feeling that they were bothering other patrons.
In that spirit, We Love Long Beach has partnered with Super Mex Restaurants in support of families of children and young adults with special needs. Families throughout greater Long Beach are invited to dine out and enjoy a fun, festive and encouraging experience.
This special dining out experience will take place on Tuesday, July 13, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at two locations:
- Super Mex – Belmont Shore
4711 E. 2nd Street, Long Beach, CA 90803
Phone: (562) 439-4489
- Super Mex – Lakewood
5254 Faculty Avenue, Lakewood, CA 90712
Phone: (562) 408-1048
Special Education teachers and Service Providers from Long Beach Unified School District have generously provided complementary training for all restaurant and volunteer staff. They will also be on hand at each location to lend a hand. Picture menus have also been created for easy ordering.
“We Love Long Beach exists to serve the people of Long Beach.” said Scott Jones, Director of We Love Long Beach. “We want to give people the opportunity to serve each other. This Super Kids event was created to encourage families and reinforce the value of people in our community with special needs. We look forward to presenting similar events in the near future and hope to inspire others in the city to do the same.”
