Author Louise Hicks Guest Speaker at Sixth District Youth Empowerment Workshop

Louise Hicks, the CEO and motivational speaker will be the featured guest at the Youth Empowerment Workshops on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, Social Hall. This is the second free class hosted by 6th District Councilman Dee Andrews and Speak Out! Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Program.

This event is part of a series of workshops focused on empowering local youth, ages 15 to 19, by assisting them in developing their communication skills and enhancing their self-confidence. The guest speaker this week is Louise Hicks, the CEO and Founder of L. Hicks Consulting Services, a motivational speaking business. She’s also the author of the highly acclaimed book, A Hill to Climb– A Teenager‘s Battle with Cancer, Depression, and Drug Addiction.

Ms. Hicks devotes much of her time to helping today’s busy woman find a balance between her professional and family life. She also teaches fundamental techniques to teens that will encourage them to stay focused on their life aspirations and goals.

Living by the principle, “Actions Speak Louder than Words,” Ms. Hicks founded a community outreach campaign for the Greater Southwest Region of Dallas in November 2010 entitled, “Moving Forward Through Faith, Love, Unity & Action.” The event was as an inspirational venture for the community. She has also volunteered in the public school system and various youth organizations, such as The Boys and Girls Club.

The Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Program is Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 4:00 p.m., at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, Social Hall, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach.

The eight-week Communication and Leadership Program, instructed by Speak Out! Toastmasters, Jack Roberts, Saba McKinley, and Carma Spence, is designed to improve communication and leadership skills. The workshops will help youth to overcome the fear and nervousness associated with public speaking. For more information call the Office of Councilman Dee Andrews at (562) 570-6816.
