Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, along with Speak Out! Toastmasters, DHHS Long Beach Weed & Seed Program, City of Long Beach Parks, Recreation, & Marine and the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach, is pleased to announce the Sixth District Youth Empowerment Workshops; Featuring Speak Out! Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Program, Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

The free workshops will focus on empowering local youth, ages 15 to 19, by assisting them in developing their communication skills and enhancing their self-confidence. “This is an extraordinary opportunity to positively impact the lives of our youth. We must allow them the chance to develop their leadership skills so that they can communicate their gifts to enrich our community”, said Councilman Andrews.

The eight-week Communication and Leadership Program, instructed by Speak Out! Toastmasters, Jack Roberts, Saba McKinley, and Carma Spence, is designed to improve communication and leadership skills. It will help youth to overcome the fear and nervousness associated with public speaking.

The class will take place on every Wednesday for eight weeks, at 4:00 p.m. at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, Social Hall, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach. The first class will start on Wednesday, April 20th. At the conclusion of the program there will be a formal graduation. Space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, please call the Office of Councilman Dee Andrews at (562) 570-6816.
